In October of 2019 we spent two weeks on Kefalonia, Jane and I - travelling once again as the Wrinkly Nomads - found ourselves wrapped in the island’s easy calm. Kefalonia has a way of greeting you softly: sunlight drifting over tall mountains, bays shimmering in impossible blues, and villages where life seems to slow just enough for you to settle into the moment.

From the first day, the island felt welcoming and unhurried. We wandered through old Venetian ruins, followed winding coastal roads that opened suddenly onto sweeping sea views, and discovered small tavernas where the food tasted like it had been perfected over generations. Evenings slipped by gently, the sky melting into warm colours as we sat with something cold in hand, grateful for the simple pleasure of being somewhere beautiful.

Kefalonia wasn’t just a holiday - it was a reminder of why we travel. The landscapes, the history, the people, and the quiet rhythm of the island all came together to give us a fortnight we still think about. It’s the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left.
